It dosen't matter what we have, we will still be longing for something else in life all the time. We will always live the life as that of a perpetual beggar. And it also doesn't matter what we attain in life, we will always remain in the same condition as that of a beggar asking for more. It is always so.
This will go on even till the day we reach our deathbed. This process just goes on. People are going on thinking that life is going to settle tomorrow. It doesn't matter what you do. Even for Alexander the Great, conquering half the world, life did not settle. Yes? Alexander, I dont know why we call him Great, probably we forgot his third name! Alexander the Great Idiot, we forgot that. Why I am saying this is, what did Alexander do in his life? At the age of sixteen he started fighting, went about killing people, unknown people, people who did not know who he is. What is his purpose in life? He went and slaughtered thousands and thousands of people. Sixteen years of non-stop fighting he did! At the age of thirty-two he died a miserable death. He was so miserable because the other half of the world was yet to be conquered.
Lets take an example, suppose let us say that this microphone is your property. Between me and you some dispute arose now about this property. Five minutes if we quarrel, if you have little sense, you will feel 'let this property go. Let me be free from this nonsense first'. If you have got some sense! Sixteen years if a man has to go on fighting non-stop for something which is not even his, he must be absolutely insane. But it is this kind of people that we have made "Great". We read and we are asking our younger coming generation to read that this man is Great. Tell me rather think, what is his contribution to human life? But unfortunately all our focus is in this way because this man had the mas ambition of conquering this world. And somewhere, everybody is an Alexander the Great, but not potent enough. We might rather dont have the same level of potency. We are impotent Alexanders.
But everybody is an Alexander, wanting to conquer something all the time. As long as this is our consciousness, as long as this is the basis of the action that we perform in the world, this world cannot be beautiful. If Alexanders exist here, if our only intention is to conquer everybody some way, conflict is the way. This world is always going to be in conflict. Pain and suffering will be the way of the world.

ajkal movie dekhne se time nahi mil raha warna thoda aur discuss karta
par koi nahi ...
There is a pleasure in the pathless woods;
There is a rapture on the lonely shore;
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more...
-Lord Byron
Self imposed or not, are you ever alone? Without any physical intrusion, you are left with yourself as a companion. Retrospectively speaking, people who say they were alone say so because they sense a feeling of lacking - either acknowledgement by the ones you call your friends or your own self esteem.
I have been alone all my life, even while being surrounded by people. I have spent nights drinking and getting stoned with my friends...but was I not alone then? I cant shake this feeling of being lost every single moment of my life...looking at others and envying the love and attention they get, whilst running away from the ones who could have shown me the same. Solitude or loneliness, its always a choice you make...
All my life I have lived a lie. Every moment I try and fight it, asking myself who am I? What I speak is not what I am, what I think is not what I am...this is true loneliness, this is Solitude...
Nice Post.
But you are missing one point that it is very difficult to live a life without goals because you will end up questioning why you are living at all now this path will lead to hedonism or suicidal tendency.
Following goal non stop results in what you are describing a state in which life loses meaning no sense of enjoyment.
Now life is sum of people we meet, experience we get and decisions we make. If we do not set any goals then it will result in standstill and you will not add much to any of these things.
So it seems it is a healthy balance of following a goal and at the same time enjoying the path to that goal.

I wrote a blog on similar topic sometime back .
Life is Journey
The idea is perhaps brilliant. But on second thoughts I could feel that this post encouraged me not to hold on, not to fight for my cause, not to fight for something I love. I neither agree nor disagree about the greatness of Alexander, but if when I read that he was great in my books, I symbolized him as someone who was able to fight, fight for what he liked. He might have killed people and his way of conquering might have been wrong, but he stood for what he wanted. Ideologically, what is the difference between Gandhi and Alexander? If people never held on to their beliefs and never fought, countries would have never got independence, scientific theories would have never been challenged and we would have been in dark ages.
Dear Mittal,
I am saikrishna your senior at IITG[Dept of Compsci&Engg ]. I hope you remember me. I happen to glance at this wonderful post and couldn't resist commenting. I hope that you will continue blogging regularly. I faced same chaos in life and here is what i arrived at. I will be happy if any of what i write below useful to anyone reading this.
Life of every living being is like an equation which will be at the end evaluated to zero ie.., death.
Humanbeings are artistic by their very nature. This artistic nature is derived from the use of consciousness that we alone in the living world enjoy. We use it to ask lot of questions and wonder about the nature and seek answers.
Now, Let me combine both the ideas. It is because of our artistic nature we insist on chalking out a wonderful equation which will be ultimately valued to zero. We find strange solace in claiming that my life is an master piece of Art elegant and beautiful at the end. People who like you , adore you and want to improve on what you did accept your elegant equation as theirs and make it more beautiful. This is something similar to models/ideals we look up to.
The point i am trying to make out is Your life is equivalent to a bunch of raw material. It is up to you to create a masterpiece out of it in your own way or let it take the standard course the society offers, trust me it is sometimes good.
However, We will generally let society lead us for a while, preferably when we are young. When we reach adulthood some people insist on shaping their life with their own hands indirectly guided by society.
Coming back to alexander, Macedonians and Greeks wanted to defeat persia for their safety and their society set this as a target for alexander. Once this is done, Alexander asserted himself and wanted to forge something bigger than this. His target ie.., Conquering whole world is again inspired by the society. Legends of Achilles were very popular and Achilles was projected as the role model. It is logical to see why alexander insisted on reaching this legendary status after a grand victory. He did it not just because he liked it But because society liked it more intensely. Stuff of a Legend makes any one crazy. Alexander too was human and couldn't resist temptation. Despite his belief that he was the son of zues. I am not glorifying violence but it was considered legitimate during his times.
Coming to the point, I agree that our equations do resemble alexander in someways. But there are many more variables to decorate our lives. Above all dont forget it is not exactly maths but more of an Art and ultimately it is valued to zero at the end.
Good one Buddy...
Well indeed conflicts will always be there until human beings keep individual goals than focusing on our oneness as humanity...
Why our teeth never bite our hand when it feeds us? Because though those are "living organs" in themselves yet all of those organs act collectively as ONE human consciousness. And through collective consciousness, a human body+mind is able to sustain itself much longer!
Similarly, in the history of evolution; the time to evolve from individual consciousness to group consciousness is impending.
